Ethiopian White Opal, turns green in dark environments and a clear-ish fire red in direct light.

Opals are the birthstone of October, known as the stone of love, loyalty, and fidelity.

They’ve long been believed to be a magical entity. As seen in Uncut Gems, NBA Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett believes he receives almost magical power from an uncut opal he borrows from Adam Sandler’s character. His obsession with the stone leads to constant tension and anxiety, showing just how powerful it feels.

Others associate opals with darker stories. In Anne of Geierstein by Sir Walter Scott, a character named Lady Hermione appears to have magical abilities. At times, she seems more like a spirit than a human. She wears a golden clasp with an opal in her hair that glows and shifts, showing flashes of red like a spark of fire. The stone seems to reflect her emotions. On the day of her daughter’s christening, drops of holy water hit the opal, it loses all its light, and she perishes along with it.

Regardless of the many beliefs and stories surrounding opals, they all point to one thing: it’s a powerful, almost magical stone.
